Grandparent Family Reunion
Family reunions can be the most exciting and most anticipated events of the entire year! Of course, the best way to guarantee a happy successful experience is to start by selecting the best destination! Our family gathered at the Meadowview lodge in Grand Lake, Colorado for what turned out to be a stunning setting! There were 15 family members for our three generation event, and truly there was something for everyone to enjoy! There was plenty of room for us to spread out in the lodge, in fact, twice as many of us would have been more than comfortable.
While in the lodge, we enjoyed movies, games, playing chess, ping pong, and shooting pool, all of which were included. Every bedroom was incredibly beautiful and comfortable, and the two gourmet kitchens were beyond compare. I found a favorite chair and read a great book. Our grandson caught his first fish in the private pond on the grounds. We ventured out for hikes and even a little panning for gold nearby. We saw moose and elk by the droves, very close up and personal, which was quite exciting for all of us city dwellers. We loved visiting the galleries and shops in Grand Lake, and the grandchildren loved the variety of ice creameries! To top off all of the fun, we hired a local photographer to take family pictures against the amazing backdrop of the Colorado Rockies. One of our daughters said: “it was the best week of my life!” Another one raved: “5 star everything! Beautiful furnishings, beautiful views, beautiful everything!”
As our family continues to grow, we would love to make this Grand Lake destination a treasured tradition.

There are so many things our family loves about the Meadowview lodge. The inside of the lodge is so beautiful, but comfortable and relaxing and fun. From the theater room, to the game rooms, to the dining room table that our whole family can sit at (that table is also a great place for making puzzles). Another thing we love is hanging out on the big front porch playing music in the evening, laughing and enjoying the family, and then taking a break and going down to the little pond and fish for trout from the paddle boat.
We also love all the wildlife and outdoor activities. One morning we woke up to a bugling sound. We got up to see what that sound was and saw a whole herd of elk in the meadow, what a sight. We’ve seen moose with their calves, deer, and fish. We love the thunder and lightning in the evenings, as that is a rare occurrence where we are from.
The Rocky Mountain National Park is just down the road where there is world-class hiking and backpacking trails. We love riding road bikes, and found you can ride for miles in any direction, we even rode 25 miles up hill to the top of the Rocky Mountain National Park and then rode down the other side to Estes Park. We rode mountain bikes and rode horses, all less than a mile away. The little town of Grand Lake has great dinner and ice cream, and even has a theater where they put on plays in the summer. Our family can’t wait to go back each year.

We had our family reunion at the Meadowview Mountain Lodge and it was amazing! We went up there during the week between Christmas and New Year’s and there was tons of snow. We had between 30-35 people attend the reunion and all of us were able to comfortably stay at the lodge. There are so many bedrooms (beautifully decorated) and private bathrooms. The beds are amazing!
The lodge is constructed of huge logs and they make the lodge amazingly sound-proof. With 30 people in the lodge, over half between the ages of 6-20, it was so quiet! At one time, there was a movie downstairs, ping pong, snowmobiles outside, a meal being prepared by several women, some people napping, and board games and it wasn’t even noisy.
Kids were in and out getting warm by the large fire and filling up at the hot chocolate bar in the kitchen. The kitchen was so large!
Many of the younger crowd went out to build snowmen and snow caves! Some of the adults ventured out with snowshoes around the lodge. There were so many things to do at the lodge – something (and more!) for everyone! Meal-times were a favorite up there. Plenty of good food and the whole family would be together in one room! Many nights we would gather in the great room and play charades or other family games.
The lodge has over 30 acres and is so peaceful. If you need quick groceries or fuel, it is only a 7 minute drive to Grand Lake Village. There is a full grocery store about 20 minutes away too! You can also spend the day skiing at Granby Ranch, which is just 20 minutes away.
This is truly a wonderful place to get your whole family together! It was the best place ever for a family reunion!
